Can't our Accountant do all that?

They can but it costs more. Significantly, Chartered Accountants tend to be concerned with last years accounts focusing on tax and auditing. We work with your Chartered Accountants to bring the accounts to their end stage. As Management Accountants though, we are focused on the business right now. How we can find costs to reduce, where is the business losing money, pricing investment plans and opportunities. We produce streamlined reports with the most information, including marketing information, for the least cost in time and money. Management Accountants are concerned with what is happening in the business today and tomorrow. Chartered Accountants tend to be concerned with last years accounts and tax.

It's ok, I have a relative/friend/dog that can do my books.

Yes in an ideal world we all do. Unfortunately, if they are working on your companies books they need to be registered. The Money Laundering Regulations 2007 now require everyone who provides bookkeeping services to be registered with a recognised professional body. Even the dog!

I've got a pretty good idea of how well I'm doing from my bank account.

Well no, not really. It is possible for a profitable business to go bust, because all they are looking at is their bank account. Cash Flow Management is not just keeping an eye on the bank balance. Talk to us and we will show you some examples.

HMRC are wanting to do an investigation - can you help?

Probably not or only in a very basic way. Tax investigations will usually involve the specialist skills of a Chartered Accountant or possibly a Tax Specialist.

Would I not be better employing someone - it would be cheaper right?

Well, do the maths, but you must measure like with like. Employing someone at £15 per hour full time, allowing Bank Holidays and say, 26 days annual holiday means that £15 is actually £19.05, actual cost to your business. And that is before you look at the raft of regulations (SMP, SSP, SPP etc that come with employment, even part time employment). Engaging us has distinct advantages:

  • If you only have enough work for a day or two a week, then we are ideal for you.
  • There is no agency/employment contract that requires long periods of notice/working hour regulations etc.
  • We are sub contractors so there is no PAYE implications or liability. We invoice you like any other supplier.
  • There is no sickness/maternity/paternity issue.
  • Much easier to terminate the contract.

It's appealing, but I don't know if I can afford it or not?

Our point exactly. If you don't know if you can afford a bookkeeper - you need a bookkeeper right now! Our initial consultations are free and confidential. We are here to lower your costs and save you money. If you don't prosper, we don't prosper.

There are a lot of bookkeepers - why should I use you?

There are, but we are not all the same. How well you get on with your bookkeeper/accountant is crucial. What makes us different, is that I have run my own businesses as well as having worked in larger ones, so I know the anxiety that the small businesses feel. I have 20 years business experience and have seen again and again that the key to successful business is more often in the day to day housekeeping. Or more precisely, good business ideas will founder without good business practices. So by all means talk to a few and discover that we are not all the same.

Ok, how do I hire you?

Firstly talk to me and we can decide exactly what is required. We will then confirm everything in writing, stating prices and rates. In addition, our contract will include what to do if you are not satisfied.
